SARGENT Visual Indicators Help Secure Schools

Visual indicators, such as those on SARGENT classroom locks and exit devices, offer immediate determination as to whether a door is secure. According to executives at SARGENT, door hardware is a frequent quick fix for school security upgrades, but installing the wrong product may jeopardize the safety of the building’s occupants. SARGENT access control products can be secured from within a classroom for localized lockdowns or from a central location. When SARGENT’s locks and exit devices with visual indicators are locked from inside the classroom, building staff can visually verify from a distance that a door is secure so staff does not have to put themselves in harm’s way.to determine a door’s status. www.sargentlock.com. .

ASSA CLIQ Remote Grants Access Anywhere In World

The ASSA CLIQ Remote offers a total solution approach to key administration by using the C4 CLIQ concept to give one person, regardless of location, anywhere in the world, the ability to remotely grant or deny access to a building for a specific period, day or time. Administrators can make all daily changes to users’ access rights without ever needing to have the keys physically or visit the opening. The web-based application CLIQ Web Manager links users with one or more remote programming devices strategically located where users frequently pass such as the staff entrance. All user keys feature a quartz clock making it possible to control the user's authorization during selected times. Both a start and a stop time when a key will have access to a particular opening can be specified. Keys can be enabled to work on multiple schedules for different openings. Employing an optional feature known as revalidation, a user key can be set to expire at regular intervals requiring that the user revalidate the key for current access permissions. Revalidation limits the liability of a lost or stolen key by blocking any future updates. For example, if keys are set to expire every 24 hours, the user must access a remote programming device in order to get new authorization for the next interval. In the event of a lost or stolen user key the electronic authorization can simply be blocked and the key becomes useless. All ASSA CLIQ Remote electromechanical keys systems can be fully integrated with both Maximum+ and Twin Maximum mechanical systems for maximum flexibility. .

New RCM Master Keying Book

One of the most difficult master keying techniques, the Rotating Constant Method (RCM), is detailed in a new book authored by industry expert Don OShall. Published by Locksmithing Education, LLC, “The Definitive Guide to Rotating Constant Method Master Keying” is written in easy to read language and makes this previously often misunderstood technique very clear. While quite simple once fully understood, RCM is still often considered an advanced technique, and he book covers many techniques generally unknown in the industry. Among techniques covered are the "Defined By" label, and subsets such as the Limited Position Progression and Limited Rotating Constant, as well as "Pure" RCM for five pin, six pin or seven pin cylinders or cores. The book is available through many distributors and associations, including www.thenationallocksmith.com and the ALOA and ILA online bookstores. Sales made through the ILA bookstore, http://www.ilanational.org/store, generate direct income for the Institutional Locksmiths’ Association to support its member benefit programs.
